Email welcome series (hot take on how to write them)

Last week, I revisited an old article by email copywriter, Ben Settle.

For the uninitiated, Ben Settle is one of the leading – and most contrarian – thinkers in the email space.

Anyway, in this article, he presents a hot take about email welcome series.

Ben Settle’s welcome series approach:

In short, he suggests you can write your welcome series – or other automated email sequences – the same way you’d write a daily or weekly broadcast email.

“In other words,” as Settle puts it. “I don’t storyboard, create mazes, or try to plot out emails for days and weeks and months… Each email stands on its own.”

And then he shares a compelling data point from a 12-part email sequence he wrote using this approach:

He sold ~400 copies of a $49.95 e-book (to a modest-sized email list).

You can check out the article at this link.

That’s it for today!

I got nothing to sell you this week. Just thought this article was a refreshing take on email sequence writing, and might give you something to chew on…

Especially if you – like many of my clients – struggle with analysis paralysis or lack of clarity on how to write a great email welcome series.
