3 story-based email ideas

Hey,

Just got an interesting email-related question so I thought I’d share it with you too. (Including my answer below.)

=======

“hey Dylan, sometimes im at loss for what to write in my emails; like what stories to share in my emails?”

=======

Here are 3 story-based email ideas:

1. Why did you start your company? Tell that story.

Example: you struggled with XYZ for years. Then you overcame it. Now you’re eager to pay it forward to your audience.

2. What did you do last week or last month related to your zone of expertise that your reader could learn from?

Example: if you tested out a technique or strategy and saw a good or bad result, share that!

3. What interaction or observation occurred in your life YESTERDAY that you could use as an analogy / springboard to teach an idea?

Example:

“Last night I was watching an episode of Seinfeld, and Jerry and George got into a heated debate over _____. It reminded me of how polarizing ____ is among [your target audience]. Well, I figured it’s about time I share my take on the matter: _____.”

Hope that helps!

P.S. here’s a quick story for you…

Couple weeks ago, I did a podcast interview with a friend who is a supporter of my work.

He asked me to talk about the eye-popping results of this case study.

In short, I discovered that my $1 product had *cannibalized* – not bolstered – repeat sales for a paid email challenge I released in March. I didn’t expect that.

During the interview, he said (and I’m paraphrasing from memory):

“I have a theory for why this happened. After buying your $1 course and going through it… I can say for a fact you are charging WAY too little for it. I didn’t even grab your follow-up course because your $1 resource covered the topic of email writing so well. You should charge more for it ASAP.”

In his honor, I will do just that.

First I gotta figure out how I’m gonna replace the obnoxious 1-dollar bill branding all over the sales page. (Replacing it with an image of a 50-dollar bill just doesn’t have the same quirkiness.)

Anyway, for now, you can grab my email template for less than the price of a chocolate bar. And even if you never buy anything else from me again – I trust you’ll find it helpful.

And that’s what I’m here for: to help you win at email.

Have a wonderful weekend.
